The IFI Horrorthon Releases Full Programme
03 Oct 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
'The Ecstasy of Isabel Mann'
For its 17th anniversary, IFI Horrorthon 2014 offers five days of the very best and worst in the horror genre. Taking place from 23rd – 27th October, the festival will host guests of honour Frank Henenlotter and Jessica Cameron. There will be a total of 38 features, many of them Irish premieres, shown over the period of the festival.

Frank Henenlotter is one of the masters of the exploitation serio-comic horror. He’ll be taking part in Q+As after his new documentary ‘That’s Sexploitation’ as well as looking back at his gory comedy horror debut ‘Basket Case’ (1982), and features ‘Frankenhooker’ (1990) and ‘Brain Damage’ (1988).

Jessica Cameron will be the second Guest of Honour at the Horrorthon. She’ll be presenting and taking part in Q&As after her directorial debut ‘Truth or Dare’, and which will be screened alongside short film ‘The Tour’, which she stars in, in the closing event of the festival.

IFI Horrorthon will open with upcoming release ‘The Babadook’. Amelia struggles to shake off her six-year-old son’s unshakeable belief in monsters, until it suddenly seems that not every monster is imaginary. Other highlights of this year’s festival include New Zealand’s vampire mockumentary ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ made by the team behind ‘Flight of the Conchord’; new horror ‘The Editor’, from the Manborg production outfit Astron 6;’ Monsters: Dark Continent’, Gareth Edwards’ follow-up to ‘Monsters; The Samurai’, starring Irish actor Sam Keeley; and Jaques Tourneurs’ ‘Night of the Demon’ (1957), a classic which sees a doctor trying to escape the curse placed on him by a satanic cult.

Horror icon Vincent Price will be explored in a new strand called IFI Horrorthon Honours and there will also be a special live-accompanied screening of 1922 silent film ‘Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages’.

This year’s Irish contributions include veteran Irish horror director Jason Figgis’ ‘The Ecstasy of Isabel Mann’ and newcomers Amy Carroll, Conor Dowling and Eoin O’Neill’s ‘The Light of Day’.

Individual tickets for the IFI Horrorthon films are on sale now at the IFI Box Office in person, on the phone on 01 679 3477 or online at www.ifi.ie/horrorthon . There are a variety of passes available ranging from one to five days.
