Following last year’s Galway Film Fleadh victory for ‘Pilgrim Hill’ director Gerard Barrett, this year’s nominees for the Bingham Ray New talent award have been announced - with the winner to be revealed at the closing night ceremony in the Town Hall Theatre on Sunday, 14th July.
Gerard Barrett went on to win the IFTA Rising Star award at this year’s IFTAs, received international critical acclaim for his debut feature, and is currently working on his second feature ‘Glasslands’.
Bingham Ray, co-founder of indie film distributor October Films and former president of United Artists, attended the Galway Film Fleadh for many years before his death in 2012 with the award named in honour of his contribution to the industry.
Last year saw the inaugural Bingham Ray New Talent Award given to Gerard Barrett by Bingham's daughters, Annabel and Becca.
This year’s five nominees, drawn from the fields of acting, direction, writing, producing and cinematography, are:
Actress Kelly Thornton for ‘Life’s a Breeze’
Director Steph Green for ‘Run & Jump’
Writer Ailbhe Keogan for ‘Run & Jump’
Producer Emmet Fleming for ‘Out of Here’
Cinematographer Eimear Ennis Graham for ‘Cold’
