‘Mad Men’ writer and producer Lisa Albert and US screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are among the latest names announced to take part in masterclass events at next month’s Galway Film Fleadh.

Screenwriting duo Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will host a Screenwriting Masterclass in the Radisson Hotel, Galway, on July 12 facilitated by Irish screenwriter Mary Kate O'Flanagan (Kicking The Habit).

On the same day, Albert will appear alongside Irish producer and director Ciaran Donnelly (Titanic: Blood and Steel) and Neil McCarthy, editorial consultant and senior vice-president of worldwide drama for Fremantle Media, to give a masterclass on how to create great television drama.

The masterclass will take place from 2.30pm - 5.30pm in the Radisson Hotel and will also be facilitated by O'Flanagan. It will cost €50 to attend.

Last week, the Fleadh announced appearances by former Warner Brothers Post-Production Vice President Bill Daly and Spanish director Ventura Pons, who will both hold masterclasses in their respective fields.

Screenwriters Alexander and Karaszewski have become one of the most successful Hollywood screenwriting teams following the critical and commercial success of ‘Ed Wood’ in 1994.

Their other work includes ‘The People vs Larry Flynt', ‘Man on the Moon' and ‘Auto Focus,’ while the duo are currently writing and directing a biopic about celebrated painter Margaret Keane called ‘Big Eyes’. Tim Burton will produce the film, which will star Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon.

In their masterclass, Albert, Donnelly and McCarthy will be looking at how to create vivid characters and memorable scenes, how to communicate economically and visually and how television writing differs from writing for the big screen.

They will also examine why the best writers are gravitating towards television, how television and film can inform each other and will give practical advice on how Irish-based screenwriters and producers can look outside Ireland to get their work made.

There will be an opportunity for a Q & A session and five participants will also have a chance for a one-to-one meeting with Lisa Albert to receive feedback on an outline for a television series.

For further information or to apply for a place, contact Bronagh Keys at 091-562200 or email: masterclasses@galwayfilmfleadh.com. The closing date for applications is July 6.

To apply for a one-to-one meeting with Albert, please send a one-page outline of your television series proposal to the above email address. Applicants must apply by July 3. The meetings will take place on July 13.
