Filmbase has launched a new Masters in Creative Documentary Production, it has been announced.
The year-long course will build on the already established MSc in Digital Feature Film Production course, which is in its first year. The new masters will equip students with the essential skills necessary to make quality documentaries as well as giving aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to engage with new wave digital documentary production.
Filmbase is a resource centre for filmmakers, where they can hire equipment, take part in training workshops, learn how to use the latest industry equipment, and network with likeminded professionals.
James Fair, course leader of the masters and lecturer at Staffordshire University, says the practical nature of the course is essential in producing a new wave of filmmakers: “If we are going to be serious about filmmaking we need to be making films, not just reading about them. We see this course as developing a path for existing and aspiring filmmakers to get their skills accredited and recognised at an advanced postgraduate level”.
Alan Fitzpatrick, managing director of Filmbase added: “We are delighted at the industry response to this course. Support for the programme, both here and internationally, has been exceptional. It’s a core philosophy of the course that students embrace learning through practical filmmaking modules.”
Students of the MSc in Digital Feature Film Production have already shot a full-length feature called ‘Keys to the City’, which wrapped filming in Dublin in April. This feature is currently in post production.
