Irish AV equipment supplier, Tyrell, has supplied Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) with state of the art equipment for its Video and Sound Technology degree course and its Music Technology degree course.
Tyrell has provided a thorough overhaul of the Institute’s post production facilities, catapulting the Institute of Technology into the forefront of third level institutes offering these courses.
Central to LIT’s needs was a fast way of transferring and sharing data for the students to work on. To this end Tyrell suggested and installed Avid’s Unity shared storage solution. This storage solution provides a central storage platform for PC workstations to share video and audio assets. To support LIT’s with video and audio training, all workstations were loaded with both Avid Media Composer Academic Edition and Digidesign Pro Tools LE.
According to Niall Corcoran, IT manager, LIT, the task of incorporating the requirements for video, sound and music IT courses into a shared solution was an extremely complex task. “Tyrell CCT's expert knowledge of Avid and Digidesign allowed us to successfully adapt the system to meet the demands of the learning environment,” he said.
Following on from their work with other third level and secondary institutes such as Dun Laoghaire National Film School, Senior College Ballyfermot, NUI Galway and St Kevin’s VEC, David O’Beirne of Tyrell said his company was delighted to be associated and engaged with a project of this scale.
