Cré na Cille
Robert Quinn’s Irish language feature ‘Cré na Cille’, adapted from the novel by Máirtín Ó Cadhain, will have its world television premiere on TG4 on Stephen’s Day at 9.30pm.

The film, produced by Connemara based film and television production company ROSG, was shot last year to commemorate 100 years since the birth of the book’s author.

‘Cré na Cille’, which translates as Graveyard Clay, is a darkly humorous tale set in a Connemara cemetery, which portrays the intense jealousy and hatred between two sisters, Caitriona and Neil, which worsens with age and continues into the afterlife.

The feature stars Bríd Ní Neachtain (Pure Mule), Mac dara Ó Fátharta (Ros na Rún), Peadar Lamb (Secrets of the Cave), Joe Steve Ó Neachtain (Ros na Run), Diarmuid Mac an Adhastair (Ros na Run) and Máire Ní Mháille (Lip Service, Cosa Nite).

Cré na Cille recently won the award for 'Outstanding Services to the Irish Language’ at the prestigious 2007 Aisling Awards, organised by the Belfast Media Group.

The film, which screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival and Magners Irish Film Festival in Boston, is now scheduled to be screened at festivals in Montreal and Tokyo in 2008.

“Although we have traveled extensively with the film and it has been screened at many prestigious festivals at home and abroad, the film’s television premiere on TG4 is ‘The Big One’,” said ‘Cré na Cille’’s producer Ciarán Ó Cofaigh. “The screening on TG4 on St. Stephen’s night is our opportunity to present ‘Cré na Cille’ to the entire nation.”

“We have absolutely no doubt that the film will be enjoyed by both Irish and non-Irish speaking audiences and we are very proud to bring the adaptation of this seminal novel to a wider audience.”

‘Cré na Cille’ was co-funded by TG4, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland ‘Sound and Vision’ scheme and private investment through Section 481. Funding from the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs brought the finished film to a final 35mm print.

‘Cré na Cille’ screens on TG4, 26th December at 9.30pm
