Aspiring screenwriters are asked to submit the first ten pages of a script, to be judged by an impressive panel made up of Stephen Fry, writer and actor Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen, Dr. Who), Tony Jordan and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, Wales.
Shortlisted entrants will be asked to provide a full script, with six finalists chosen to spend a workshop day with Red Planet Pictures’ Tony Jordan, co-creator of ‘Life on Mars’ and former ‘EastEnders’ chief storyliner. A winner will be chosen from the six.
Jordan said: “I know what it is like for new writers. They send these scripts out and they get stacked up against a wall somewhere and never read. All most writers want is for someone to read their work properly. It is really heartbreaking and soul destroying to not get a response when you send your work out.”
“My dream is to find a writer no one else knows about, who has written a script that is gobsmackingly brilliant, commission it and get it made.”
Entries must include half a page about the entrant, and a half page story synopsis. Entries must be in English and can be in any genre, and the competition is open to non-UK residents.
Entries should be emailed to redplanetprize@redplanetpictures.co.uk.
Closing date for entries is September 1st 2007. The final short listed candidates will be contacted in December 2007 for a workshop.
