TV3 have announced Lotus & Lion TV have been commissioned to co-produce the biggest ever reality event for the commercial station in Ireland. Ex-Coronation Street actor and Boyzone star, Keith Duffy, will front the 20x30min reality game show, entitled ‘The Box’.
Lined up as a highlight of TV3's autumn schedule, ‘The Box’ sees two players taking part in a cat-and-mouse psychological battle for a big money prize. All the action takes place in a transparent glass block sited in downtown Dublin.
Fintan Maguire, Commissioning Editor, TV3, said: “TV3 are delighted to be bringing this new and original format to Irish audiences. We are looking forward to broadcasting a programme that we believe will be a huge hit with our viewers.”
Trapped inside ‘The Box’ for 24 hours a day, contestants have virtually no privacy and will be competing in real-time for cash prizes, with the whole of Ireland being able to watch their every move. The show will broadcast highlights of the day’s action, followed by a live contest. The loser will exit ‘The Box’ with no money, the winner stays to greet the next contender and spend another 24 hours in ‘The Box’.
Mark Nolan, Creative Director, Lotus TV, describes the series as “groundbreaking in so many ways. It represents a new phenomenon in reality TV.”
TV3’s breakfast show will support the production, inviting viewers to take part in the event, as well as providing exclusive live action and interviews with the participants.
Production company Lotus & Lion are behind recent BBC shows ‘Let Me Entertain You’, starring Brian Conley, and ‘The Wedding Show’, presented by Nick Knowles.
