28 Nov 2002 :
Oscar Moore Foundation Award for New European Screenwriting awarded to two Irish screenwriters: Brendan and Jason Butler.

"We would like to extend our congratulations to Jason and Brendan Butler whose comedy "Ton of Money" was chosen as winner of the 2002 Oscar Moore Screenwriting Prize." - Anne Marie Flynn (Oscar Moore Foundation, Chairwoman)

"To have the script judged by such an acclaimed panel and to be chosen from such a varied and competitive field is, for me, the prize itself." - Brendan Butler

The European wide competition was judged by Top UK film producers Duncan Kenworthy (Notting Hill, Four Weddings) Eric Fellner (Elizabeth, Dead Man Walking, Bridget Jones), Scott Meek (Wisdom of Crocodiles, Velvet Goldmine, Hamish Macbeth) and global sales agent Wendy Palmer.

The prize giving will take place on December 3rd at SOUND on London's Leicester Square at the British Film Industry's annual film quiz which is attended by everyone who's anyone in the film business. "Any winner of this prize will be taken seriously, since people know how tough the competion is." - Andrew Eaton, Revolution Films.

The award includes a cash prize of STG£10,000, a placement on Arista's European Residential Development Workshops, and a coveted Performed Reading of the winning script, "Ton of Money", by the Script Factory. Recent readings have been performed by actors of acclaim and statue such as Chistopher Eccleston, Stephen Fry, Irene Jacob and Emily Watson.

"Arista and the Oscar Moore Foundation are both committed to the well-being of European screenwriting, so it makes sense that we work together to offer the next generation of screenwriters not just cash - which is always useful - but a serious development experience which will help them in their chosen career." Stephen Cleary, Director, Arista.
